One of Sloan Davis’s many catch-phrases is his inspirational-speaker in-a-van-down-by-the-river cheer, “It’s our time, man!” He’d always say it if one of us got down about our future or our life’s accomplishments.
Well, when it came time to celebrate his 50th birthday, Grant and Dave fashioned that phrase into what is arguably the most powerful song in the YDU repertoire, “It’s My Time.”
The song walks the razor’s edge of mid-life between being at the top of one’s game and being ready for the grim reaper. Bulls may not chase, but they also are ripe for the arena and the picador’s blade.
Check out the lyrics below:
You say it ain’t no big deal You say it’s all gonna be ok You say I ain’t over the hill But that’s all some lying hearsay I say my knees is aching, Lord I say my soul is so tired And I say I can’t play no more But I ain’t never gonna give up this game It’s my time, it’s my time, it’s my time I don’t know if I’m on the prowl or out to pasture It’s my time, it’s my time, it’s my time I’m gonna tell St. Pete to wait outside the gate You say I should not have that drink You say I gotta take care of myself You say that I’m too damn old And I say you can all go to hell It’s my time, it’s my time, it’s my time I don’t know if I’m on the prowl or out to pasture It’s my time, it’s my time, it’s my time I’m gonna tell St. Pete to wait outside the gate
